Affirmative	Examples
I was	I was late. Eu estava atrasado.
You were	You were at my party. Você estava na minha festa.
He was	He was a student. Ele era um aluno.
She was	She was at school. Ela estava na escola.
It was	It was a different day. Foi um dia diferente.
We were	We were married. Nós éramos casados.
You were	You were my friends. Vocês eram meus amigos.
They were	They were my neighbours. Eles eram meus vizinhos.

Verb to be in the simple past: forma negativa ( Não precisa copiar é só para ler)

Na sua forma negativa, o verbo to be pode ser contraído com o not. Observe a tabela a seguir:

Negative	Examples
I was not = wasn’t	I wasn’t late. Eu não estava atrasado.
You were not = weren’t	You weren’t at my party. Você não estava na minha festa.
He was not = wasn’t	He wasn’t a student. Ele não era um aluno.
She was not = wasn’t	She wasn’t at school. Ela não estava na escola.
It was not = wasn’t	It wasn’t a different day. Não foi um dia diferente.
We were not = weren’t	We weren’t married. Nós não éramos casados.
You were not = weren’t	You weren’t my friends. Vocês não eram meus amigos.
They were not = weren’t	They weren’t my neighbours. Eles não eram meus vizinhos.

Para fazer uma pergunta com o verbo to be no passado, precisamos inverter a ordem da frase afirmativa, ou seja, o verbo vem antes do sujeito. Observe a seguinte tabela:
